For years, the official Roof Transport System was the only real choice for a 996/997 roof rack. But with the RTS now discontinued, and alternatives either also discontinued or just plain bad, we had do something.
Our rack starts with Yakima Skyline components (sold separately), either Skyline towers + Jetstream bars, or Skyline FX integrated bars. We CNC machined mounts for them from 6061 aluminum to remove any durability doubts, and designed a bi-layer rubber gasket to protect your paint, conform to the roofline, apply even pressure for stability, and even weather-seal the area so water can't get under the rain gutter cover. The Skyline components clip in as normal, giving us the ultimate roof rack: - Low: With standard towers and bars it's already great, but with Skyline FX bars (see photos) the rack can be so low that the clamps for some roof boxes touch the sunroof! - Quiet: Modern Yakima bars produce far less wind noise than the 20-year-old RTS. - Sleek: Even if fuel efficiency is not your priority, you get more smiles for more miles when your roof-box equipped 996/997 returns almost the same MPG's as a bare one. - Easy: The mounts are just one screw each and the cross bars clip in, making both install and removal a 5-minute job.
